Customer Reviews

We don’t always get it 100% right but here are some of the lovely reviews we have received over the years…

“Went for a stroll round Stokes Bay and stopped off for a coffee, spotted the Coronation Chicken sandwich and that was it! Hubby had a Tuna Mayo sandwich, both arrived promptly and they were delicious (just enough curry powder in the Coronation Chicken), bread lovely, fresh and soft, served with crisps and a fresh salad on the side, a really nice touch. Coffees came in nice deep cups, all in all very good. Staff friendly, lovely view from the terrace watching the world go by…

“10 of us visited for a Christmas lunch a couple of days ago, couldn’t have had a better reception or service. Excellent atmosphere and food and they do not scrimp on portion size at this restaurant. More than happy to recommend.”

“Wonderful location, fantastic food served by very friendly staff. Great lunch time experience The best meal I have had since moving to Gosport.”

“A delicious meal of deep fried brie, garlic king prawns, sea bass and Fowey mussels. A quiet night in the restaurant, but friendly, chatty staff. Heading back soon to try the swordfish.”

“Lovely seafood restaurant on Stokes bay. Reasonable prices and excellent quality. Plenty of outside seating.”

“We fell upon this by mistake as we were going to stop at far end of beach. So glad we changed our mind. Lovely spot right on the front. Excellent diverse menu. We were lucky it was such a glorious day. Our party ranged from 5 to 83 and everyone was happy. Will happily return!

“What a lovely little restaurant with beautiful views of the beach – shame it was raining by the time we had eaten. The food was freshly cooked & delicious with very generous portions, wish I had not ordered jumbo prawns to start as the sea bass fillets were very filling!”
TripAdvisor Review – January 2019

“Visited on a cold, wet Tuesday lunchtime with my wife and although we were the first guests the restaurant quickly got busy. A number of tables had been reserved. We were welcomed by friendly staff and the service remained friendly and attentive throughout. The restaurant is fairly small, giving every table a view out over the beach and busy Solent to the Isle of Wight so there is always something to watch! The menu is quite extensive and on our visit was supplemented by a few extra dishes on a specials board. As expected, the menu is heavily biased toward fish and shellfish but there are other options. I selected battered jumbo prawns from the specials board and my wife had the fish pie from the regular menu. Both meals were substantial, well prepared and tasty. Dishes we saw being delivered to other tables also looked good, and all very large portions.”

“Had a lovely Tapas meal with family, it was colourful, tasty and very fresh. No rush to leave and friendly staff. Will visit again.”
TripAdvisor Review – September 2018

“Went here with some friends, we were eleven in total and had booked a table to ensure we could all get in. The position of this place is right on the beach with a convenient large car park behind, it’s fairly modern but does not have air conditioning so on a really hot day can be rather warm inside. You do have a choice of eating either in or outside. The service was prompt, efficient and helpful. Food was delivered promptly and was cooked well, the cost was low so everyone was pleased. Well worth a visit!”

“A rainswept view of the sea but food worthy of a beach restaurant anywhere. The calamari I had as a starter were the best I’ve had outside Greece and the mussels my partner and I had for our mains were plump and gorgeous. My step-mum in her 80s enjoyed prawn cocktail and scampi and chips. I remember this years ago as a beach cafe and ice cream kiosk but now a really smart restaurant and wine bar with friendly service and generous portions.”

“We stopped here for lunch and were very happy with the experience. The staff were attentive and polite, the food was well presented and enjoyable. The views are just great. It was a windy day but the welcome was warm. You can get cheaper eats in the locality if you want but we felt the prices represented reasonably good value for what we had and would happily go again.”

“This “Fish and Wine Bar” is a real delight to eat at, located right by the esplanade at Stokes Bay. My wife and I have eaten here several times and cannot fault the food. We chose from the ‘Seasoned Citizens’ menu and had wonderful haddock and chips for our main course today. The batter was light and the haddock was full of flavour. If you are in the area, I would recommend a visit to this restaurant.”
TripAdvisor Review – February 2018

“After a very warm welcome we enjoyed a lovely bottle of wine and two delicious meals. Chicken and leek pie and the smoky, smoked haddock and prawns in a cheese sauce topped with mash. Both were very tasty and left us ready to continue on our walk on a very wet and windy February day. We will certainly return to enjoy more treats from the varied menu and enjoy some jazz on a Wednesday. Many thanks for a great experience.”

“I recently used Pebbles Fish and Wine bar for Sunday lunch with my wife. The atmosphere is most charming, with lovely views of the Solent. Our lunch was lovely, me having a Lamb Shank, and the wife having Pork Belly. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, which were of the highest quality, served up by fantastic waiting staff. We will certainly return again soon, as it seems to be one of the finest places to eat.”
TripAdvisor Review – January 2018

“Went here on the Tuesday before Christmas and it was quiet but we had a great night. Food was delicious, we all had scampi followed by blackberry crumble. This comes with cream or ice cream but when we said we fancied custard, the waitress said that wasn’t a problem. All staff happy and friendly.”
TripAdvisor Review – December 2017

“Had our family Christmas meal here, food was excellent and everyone enjoyed. Thanks to all the staff who were friendly and attentive. Recommended.”

“Regularly visit Pebbles and we are never disappointed! Fabulous food, fabulous staff and great prices.”
TripAdvisor Review – November 2017

“We visited with a few friends for my wife’s birthday as the restaurant is a short walk from our house. The menu is probably the most random collection of dishes I’ve ever come across – from Chili Lasagne through a whole selection of generally deep-fried tapas to fresh fish. The restaurant has a great location with wonderful views across the Solent, with friendly staff.”
TripAdvisor Review – September 2017

“I have never had such a fabulous BBQ’d ribs! My wife was a bit disappointed at the fact that the Smokies were not available. Perhaps the sailors off the American aircraft carrier in the bay had eaten them all. The replacement was terrific she informed me. Service was impeccable and cheerful. There was a good wine list as well. The ambiance was good and NO loud music. We could hear what we were saying to one another. It would have been lovely to have eaten out side but it was the wettest August day on record!! I think the IOW was out there somewhere.”
TripAdvisor Review – August 2017

“We stumbled across this place whilst looking for a fish & chip takeaway and it’s position overlooking the sea is ideal and they found us a table without having booked! Right next to the window so we could look out at the sea. The choice of fish was excellent and I had the swordfish – I love this fish but rarely find it in this country – it tasted delicious as the flavours used to cook it (Mediterranean) were spot on. We did have to wait a while as it is all cooked fresh but it was definitely worth it. If you like fish go here. I strongly recommend it and I can’t wait to go back!!”

“Went here for my brother’s birthday at the weekend and have to say it’s a great little restaurant, with lots of choice for everyone. Friendly service, delicious food, good portions, great value for money and a warm fun, friendly atmosphere and fab views of the sea.”
TripAdvisor Review – July 2017

“We stopped here on a really hot evening on a Wednesday night. The location is fantastic on the beach. It was Jazz night with a live band and the atmosphere was great. The food and drinks were really good and the staff were working hard in terrific heat to keep everyone fed and watered. Great location, nice food and the jazz night made it special. Highly recommend…”

“Visited Pebbles with 21 family members and the service and food was amazing. They catered for everyone in the group from an 86 year old to an infant. The food was great quality and served all at the same time which we appreciated as we were such a large group. We only ate a main meal on this occasion so we took a smaller group back the next week for tapas and dessert! On both visits we felt very welcome, Pebbles is now on my list of favourite restaurants in the area.”

“Decided to make the most of a bit of summer sunshine at lunchtime today and popped in for a light lunch and a drink. We sat on the terrace and found the glass screening surrounding it most effective in keeping of the sea breeze whilst still allowing us a pleasant view of the Solent and the Isle of Wight. Despite the place being packed, service was efficient and quality of food was excellent. We ordered from the Tapas menu and really enjoyed generous portions of Serrano ham and Manchego Cheese, plus delicious garlic bread.”

“I organised a pre-Christmas dinner for 37 friends at this wonderful restaurant. The food was outstanding and Jackie & staff looked after us brilliantly. A great evening was had by all and we’ve booked in again for Christmas 2016.”
TripAdvisor Review – December 2015

“Myself and a colleague were in town on a course. We visited Pebbles twice in October and once back in July. The food is amazing and very reasonably priced. The tapas dishes are delicious, 3 between two people are more than enough. I wanted to go back another night to try more of the dishes but we had to come home. The girls were yet again very friendly and accommodating. Great for veggies, fish lovers and meat eaters alike. In summer you also have the added pleasure of sitting outside watching the world go by and the lovely views.”

“This restaurant is an amazing little find. It is an intimate restaurant with good service and food cooked to order. There is plenty of food per serving and meals are served with a proper salad garnish not a plate of lettuce! There is nothing to fault. The staff are polite and caring, service is good, the food is good and servings are large. The prices are very reasonable, not expensive at all. We would definitely recommend this to others. A 5 star rating without a doubt.”
TripAdvisor Review – April 2015

“We celebrated my mum’s 80th birthday at Pebbles last night. We had the whole restaurant to ourselves and the age range was 20 – 80+ years! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening, the food was fabulous and PLENTY of it! The choice of menu was perfect, the staff were friendly, helpful and super-efficient! The restaurant is nicely decorated and very clean. All in all no complaints at all – from the start of organising several weeks ago to the end of the party! Forty people left the restaurant very happy and with extremely full tummies!! Thank you Pebbles!”
TripAdvisor Review – January 2015

“Visited this restaurant for Mother’s Day, had a table for 8, lovely views and setting, had to share a starter between two as they were so large if I had eaten this by myself I would not of managed to eat my main meal, food very tasty, fresh veg used, lovely and hot ,well presented by very friendly and helpful staff, and good selection of wine, parking was easy as there is a public car park next to it.”
TripAdvisor Review – March 2014

“I thought this restaurant was very good quality food and excellent value for money with lovely staff. It has great views across the Solent. I would definitely recommend a visit.”
Nichola – Trip Advisor Review – August 2013

“We have just enjoyed another superb family meal at Pebbles and the food, staff and wine were great as always. My Breaded Brie starter was absolutely lovely and the dinner portions were excellent, there’s no fear of going hungry here! So nice to enjoy hearty, tasty food that actually fills you up and with a lovely view too.”
